Wisconsin Agriculture in the Classroom Celebrates National Read-a-Book Day

September 6, 2024

MADISON – This fall, local Wisconsin Farm Bureau Agriculture in the Classroom programs are donating over 800 books and supporting resources to classrooms and libraries across the state. This initiative is part the Wisconsin Agriculture in the Classroom Book of the Year program.

Volunteers began distributing books just in time for National Read-A-Book Day on September 6.

The Book of the Year Award is given by the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture annually to a book that accurately tells the story of the journey of food and fiber from the farms to our homes. The 2024 Book of the Year Award was given to "My Grandpa, My Tree and Me" by Roxanne Troup.

"For over fifteen years, Farm Bureau volunteers have provided students with resources to help students grow awareness and understanding about the impact of agriculture in their daily lives," said Wisconsin Agriculture in the Classroom Coordinator Beth Schaefer. "This year, county Farm Bureaus have donated over $20,000 worth of literacy resources to local classrooms – it is a tremendous gift, and we are truly grateful for their support of student learning."

Fifty-two county Farm Bureau Agriculture in the Classroom programs participated in the Book of the Year Program offered by Wisconsin Agriculture in the Classroom.
